From November 30, 2003 to April 15, 2004, the Center for Learning Excellence conducted an alternative education customer satisfaction survey of school district personnel from schools that referred students to their local Challenge Grant-funded alternative education program. 366 people responded to the survey.  These are the findings:

  • Over 75% of the respondents “agreed” or “strongly agreed” that students in their district had been positively impacted by the alternative education program.

  • Over 75% of respondents “agreed” or “strongly agreed” that the alternative education program had effectively served at-risk students in the districts and was likely to address the needs of at-risk students.

  • Over 75% of the respondents “agreed” or “strongly agreed” that the alternative education program was one of the best things to happen to the district.

  • Over 80% of respondents “agreed” or “strongly agreed” that their local alternative education program was cost-effective, that the programs need to be expanded, and that continued funding of alternative education programs should be a state priority.
