Woodland Centers, Inc.

Gallipolis, Ohio

For 27 years, Woodland Centers, Inc. has provided a comprehensive range of mental health services to children and families in Meigs County. Included are services developed cooperatively with local school districts. Therapists and case managers regularly provide school-based counseling for pupils ages 6 to 17. Intensive intervention and crisis management are also provided for seriously disturbed children and their families. The Southern Local School District is one of Woodland’s most active education partners. School district personnel work cooperatively with the Woodland's staff not only when behavioral interventions are necessary but also in developing prevention strategies. Together they encourage teachers to: attend to individual student needs, help students develop interpersonal and self-expression skills; and, to promote caring adult/student relationships. Through their combined efforts, attendance and graduation rates have improved and the number of graduates enrolled in higher education has increased.
