The Ohio Seed
Grant: Partnership between ODMH and ODE
Dr. Michael
Hogan, Director,
Ohio Department of Mental Health and Dr. Susan
Tave Zelman, Superintendent of Public Instruction,
Ohio Department of Education are proud
that the Ohio Department of Mental Health’s and Ohio Department of
Education’s joint proposal for a Shared Agenda Seed Grant resulted in Ohio
being chosen as one of six states to receive the award. Five other states,
Missouri,
Vermont, Oregon, Texas and South Carolina, also received an award.
With the
Shared Agenda Seed Grant,
Ohio
will be able to make significant progress toward clearly defining how the
state can more efficiently and effectively provide mental health services
and supports to Ohio’s children and youth. Furthermore, it provides
opportunities to strengthen existing relationships and build new
partnerships across professional cultures, which is essential for building
successful, shared agendas.
The Ohio Seed Grant was
divided into three distinct phases to be completed during the grant
period from October 22, 2002 to
September 30, 2003.
Phase 1 was the Statewide forum for
leaders of mental health, education, and
Policymakers. Phase 2 included the Regional Events for Policy
Implementers and Consumer Stakeholders and Phase 3 was comprised of a
legislative hearing involving key leadership of relevant House and Senate
Committees. The Appreciative Inquiry model was used in the process of
promoting systems-level
change and transformation of this statewide
initiative.
