Shared Agenda Seed Grant

Phase 1- Statewide Forum for Policymakers

The Statewide Forum for Policymakers was held on March 3, 2003, at the Fawcett Center at Ohio State University. The forum was entitled, Mental Health, Schools, and Families Working Together for Ohio’s Children: Toward A Shared Agenda – Ohio's Initiative.

This full-day working conference featured keynote speakers Dr. Mark Weist and Dr. Steven Adelsheim.  Dr. Weist is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine and is the Director of the Center for School Mental Health Assistance at Maryland. Dr. Adelsheim is a Child Psychiatrist and the Director of the New Mexico School Mental Health Initiative in the New Mexico Department of Health.  He is also an Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Family/Community Medicine, and Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center

The Statewide Forum provided stakeholder reaction to the concept paper and the keynotes.  This conference brought together several different policymaking organizations and key leaders who help to shape policy for children’s mental health and education.  In attendance were members from the Ohio Department of Mental Health, the Ohio Department of Education, the Center for Learning Excellence, the Ohio Counselors Association, Superintendents, policymakers, parent groups, students, professionals in education, mental health, family advocacy and other child serving systems.
